...apply themes in 'Inside Out' to college and high school life.
...compare and contrast the histories and missions of NC A&T and UNCG. 
...create a pennant showing information about my first choice college.
...set a SMART goal for the week.

1) Warm Up: Advice from Inside Out

  1. Set up a note sheet for the day. EQ: Where am I going? How will I get there? Topic: College Advice and College Trip Preview
  2. Read "4 lessons for college students from Pixar's 'Inside Out'".
  3. After you read, complete a quick write: What did you learn from 'Inside Out' that can be helpful as a high school student and a future college student?

2) Literacy Block: College Field Trip Preview (25 min)
  1. Before you read: 
    1. Set up a Venn diagram with one circle labeled UNCG and the other labeled NC A&T.
    2. Open the three links below:
      1. NC A&T Mission and History
      2. UNCG Mission and History
  2. While you read:
    1. Write at least 5 specific and different details about NC A&T and UNCG in their circles.
    2. In the center, note 3 similarities between the NC A&T and UNCG.
  3. After you read, write for 2 minutes about which college you would rather go to and why.

3) Lesson Plan: College Choices Task 2: College Pennant (30 min)

  1. Finish the scavenger hunt.
  2. Create your pennant:
    1. Cut out two triangles and glue the smaller one on top.
    2. Read the requirements.
    3. Find the information.
    4. Add to your pennant.
4) Closure/Exit Ticket: Start SMART
  1. Open your planner.
  2. Fill in upcoming due dates, homework, events, etc.
  3. Write a SMART goal for the week.
  4. Check with a neighbor and see if your goal is SMART or not.
