Enjoy the sharing of original poetry & prose in blocks lasting up to five minutes each!
Sign up for open mic begins at 5:30 PM.
Writers age 15 and under are encouraged to share their original works from 6-6:15 PM. Works containing adult language or mature themes may be shared after 6:15 PM.
You know you deserve to Take 5! So come out, share your work, or just listen and enjoy a great time!

Pile the family in the car and come Downtown for our Inaugural Jack-o'-Lantern Trail. Participating businesses will carve, decorate and display their spooky pumpkin creations in their storefront windows for all to enjoy!

Artist Bio:
Ryan Fox is a photographer and watercolor artist living and working in Raleigh, NC. Fox has exhibited work throughout the Southeast and beyond, including at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center, Carlisle, PA; the Redfield Estate at The Grove in Glenview, Illinois; the San Diego Watercolor Society, San Diego, CA; and the American Watercolor Society, New York, NY.

2017 Teens, Inspired ExhibitionTeens, Inspired is an annual arts competition and exhibition for high school students hosted by the North Carolina Museum of Art that is organized, juried, and curated by teens and for teens. The NCMA requests submissions of poems, 2-D and 3-D works of art, and video art. Artists are also required to include an artist statement. Students must use a work of art from the Museum’s collection to inspire your own poem or artwork, as opposed to copying a particular piece. The deadline for Teens, Inspired is February 17, 2017. High school students do not have to be enrolled in an art or writing class to submit!Submission requirements:All submissions must include:A. Final work of art or poem inspired by a piece in the NCMA collection.Poetry Requirements: must not exceed 16 lines of text (these restrictions are due to the size of the labels they will be printed on.).2-D Requirements: must not exceed 30 x 24 inches; can be in any medium.3-D Requirements: must not exceed 24 x 24 x 8 (h x w x d) inches; must be a stable/nonperishable medium.Video Requirements: must be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in length.B. Artist Statement that explains which piece from the Museum’s collection you have chosen and how it inspired your work. 150-300 words.
