  1. Complete the sample grade calculations as a class.
  2. Set your goal for your final grades. List these goals in the "Goal Grade" column. (Do you want an 80? 85? 90? 95? 100?)
  3. Look in PowerSchool and fill in your Q1 and current Q2 grades on your slip of paper.
  4. Determine what you need on your final exams for each class.
  5. Swap with a neighor and check your work.
  6. Quickwrite (on the back of your paper): What does this mean? Are your goals realistic? Do you need to be panicking? If you are far from your goal grade, what can you do now to help you get there?
  7. Add "Grade Calculations Sheet" to your binder as TOC #29.
2) Tutorial Time (50 min)
  1. Before Tutorials (15 min):
    1. Add on to your set of flash cards.
    2. Tab relevant pages in your notes.
    3. Add HOT questions and summaries to these pages. If you already have, make flash cards about the information on your TRF.
  2. During Tutorials (25 min):

    1. Break into groups.
    2. Share your final concept ratings (in the POC box). Choose the order of presentations.
    3. The first presenter gives a thirty second speech.
    4. Classmates ask questions and take notes. Someone takes notes for the presenter.
    5. When the presenter gets it, ask him or her to explain how he or she would teach the concept to a confused friend.
    6. Repeat.
  4. After Tutorials (10 min):
    1. Take out your TOC round up.
    2. Add a column to the right of the table that says "# of TOCs".
    3. Flip through the TRF section of your binder.
    4. Tally how many TRFs you wrote for each class.
    5. Answer the following reflection question on the back of your TRF or on separate paper that you staple to it:
      1. Are most of your TRFs about the classes you have the lowest grades in? Why or why not?
      2. How can you use Tutorials more effectively next semester?
      3. What is the most helpful thing about Tutorials?
      4. What is the most challenging thing about Tutorials?
      5. How would you improve Tutorials?

1) Warm Up: Create your Study Calendar
  1. Read the directions at the top of your calendar.
  2. Highlight the days you have exams.
  3. Take out TOC #28.
  4. Write specific tasks you will complete EACH night during 10 day review and during exams. Be sure to list each of the concepts you said you needed to review on your TOC Round Up sheet.
2) Lesson Plan Part 1: How I Will Study (35 min)
  1. Before the Video: 
    1. Add to the board: What do you do to study?
    2. Quickwrite/sketch: What happens in your head as you study? Where do you study? 
  2. During the Video: Jot down the 10 tips for studying.
  3. After the Video:
    1. Share with your table which tip sounded the most and least helpful to you.
    2. Put your phone in the drawer to practice our testing environment.
    3. Choose a class to focus on for the next 15 minutes.
    4. Visualize your classroom by creating a list or sketch. (2 min)
    5. Do a mind dump of everything you remember from that class. (2 min)
    6. Make a cheat sheet for your class. (10 min)
    7. Stand up. Find someone in the same class as you. Have your partner add at least 2 things to your cheat sheet. (3 min)
    8. Return to your table and agree on a video to watch from College Info Geek's channel. Choices should be about reading comprehension, studying, stress management, procrastination, or note taking.
    9. Quietly watch your video and share a 20 second summary with the class.
    10. Quickwrite: How will you improve your study habits during 10 day review?

3) Lesson Plan Part 2: Focused Review (20 min)
  1. Key Term Flashcards Cont'd (7 min): 
    1. Continue creating flash cards (use halves of index cards or quizlet) using key terms from your notes. Start with key terms from the class you have the lowest grade in!
    2. You need 15 key term cards.
  2. Tab and Ask
    1. Flip through your binders and tab assignments you need to review or revise.
    2. Write one question for each of these assignments on the back of your calendar in the right class period.
    3. Choose one of these to write your final TRF on.
    4. Plan when you will meet with your teachers to ask them these questions.
4) Exit Ticket: In your planner, write what surprised you as you reviewed today.

1) Warm Up: Six Word Memoir (5 min)

  1. Read the example six word memoirs. 
  2. Write a six word memoir for your Thanksgiving break OR for your semester as a whole.
  3. Stand, Share, Sit to share your six word memoir with your table.

2) Lesson Plan: TOC Round Up + Key Term Flashcards (45 min)

  1. Part 1: Grade Check (7 min)
    1. Write the name of each of your classes in your table on your TOC Round Up Sheet.
    2. Put the date of each exam and type of each exam in the table. (Types include: Teacher-made, NCFE, EOC (none this semester!), Benchmark)
    3. Use PowerSchool to fill in your current grades.
  2. Part 2: Determine What to Review (15 min)

    2. Look at your TOC for your first period class. Highlight any assignment you need to review.
    3. In your table, write the number of assignments you highlighted.
    4. List 2-3 concepts or specific tasks you need to revisit in your table.
    5. Repeat this for each class.
  3. Part 3: Begin to Review (7 min)
    1. *Star* two concepts you listed in your table.
    2. Choose to create a list or concept map.
    3. Using a list or concept map, list everything you remember or can find in your notes about that concept.
    4. Got it? Cross it off your list of stuff to review. Need to keep going? Tab your notes or relevant assignments so you remember to ask your teacher about the concept later.
  4. Part 4: Key Term Flashcards (15 min)
    1. Take 4 minutes to flip through your notes and highlight key terms.
    2. Begin creating flash cards (use halves of index cards or quizlet) using key terms from your notes. Start with key terms from the class you have the lowest grade in!
  5. Clean Up:
    1. Put your flash cards in your pencil pouch.
    2. Add your "TOC Round Up Sheet" to your TOC and binder as #28.

3) Final Book Club Preparation Meeting (The Reward, the Road Back, the Resurrection Cont'd)
  1. Meet with your book club group.
  2. Share your favorite scene or quote from your book.
  3. Then, finish creating your artifact to share on Friday.
  4. If you do not finish, plan how you will finish this outside of class between now and Friday!

4) Exit Ticket:
  1. Write a goal for tonight in your planner.
  2. Show your goal to a neighbor and have them give it a smiley face if it is a SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound) goal.

1) Warm Up: Practicing Gratitude (12 min)

  1. Trace your hand and, if you want, make it look like a turkey.
  2. In each finger, note the following:

    3. Ring finger: A friend you are thankful for
    4. Middle finger: A family member you are thankful for
    5. Pointer finger: An item or thing you are thankful for

2) Book Club Meeting: The Reward, The Road Back, and The Resurrection (35 min)
  1. Discuss the end of the your book using the protocol here.
  2. Work on creating your final product. (You will share these on Friday, Dec 2!)
  3. Give each group member a scrap paper reward/certificate from their contribution to your book club discussions and missions.
3) Game/Project Workshop: Beta Testing and Feedback (Until the end of class)

  2. Get into groups as needed.
  3. Spend 5 minutes planning how you will teach others your game/present your project. Be ready to describe any unfinished components.
  4. Break into groups of 3-6 people.
  5. Share your projects or play your games.
  6. As people play, avoid jumping in and see if they can figure stuff out.
  7. Note in your document what they seem to enjoy and struggle with.
  8. Ask group members to give you a plus and delta.
  9. Use the feedback to make/plan revisions.

1) Warm Up: Game and Project Complex System Planning
  1. Doodle the parts of your project or game (interviewees, meeples/roles, game board, canvas).
  2. Draw arrows showing how the parts are related to each other.
  3. List any rules about how these items are related on the arrows. (ie. interviewees answer questions when the camera is on, meeples move across the game board after they role the di and complete a challenge, etc.)
  4. Stand Up-Hand Up-Pair Up to share this with a classmate for feedback. Is your game or project as complex as your issue? How do you make the complex systems involved understandable?
2) Game/Project Development Workshop:

  1. Open your copy of the document here.
  2. If you are joining forces with a team, make sure you have worked up to the bold word "Optional".
  3. Get into groups as needed.
  4. At the top of your document, decide how you want to earn your final 20 points. If you are working in a group and one person is in charge of art and one is in charge of strategy, you can decide that partner A gets 20 points for art while partner B gets 20 points for the rules in the rule book.
  5. Work through the "Plan" section of your document and then move on to "Create".
  6. On Tuesday, we will begin beta testing/giving feedback. Be ready! 
3) Book Club: Tests, Allies and Enemies AND The Approach and Ordeal
  1. Third and Fourth Period:

    What ordeals do your characters face?
    What is their reward?
    1. Title a new sheet of paper "Tests, Allies, and Enemies".
    2. Write a three question test on what you have read in the past weeks. Swap with a group member. Grade each other!
    3. Choose a minor or major character and jot down some characteristics of this character. Without revealing your character, ask your group mates yes or no questions to try to figure out a) who they are and b) if you are allies or enemies. Reveal who you are.
    4. Identify your favorite book character.
    5. Jumble with other students who are reading different books.
    6. Describe your characters and determine possible alliances and enemies if your characters were smashed together in one novel/world. Map these relationships on the back of your test.
  3. All:
    1. Complete a book club discussion and mission using the protocol and ideas here AND your contract.
    2. Choose your final artifact. You will begin creating this on Tuesday. Note what you will create on your contract. Ask me for approval.
    3. Paperclip all of your work together.
    4. Put your book club materials in the drawer with your class period number on it.

  1. Take three minutes to update your TOCs for the week. Notice what concepts you have learned recently!

  3. Stand Up-Hand Up-Pair Up and tell two people not at your table what you learned recently.

      1. Skim through two of the articles below.
        1. We need to address climate change with stricter regulations on agriculture, transportation, and industry.
        2. College should be made affordable for all students through lower tuition (funded by higher taxes and fund reallocation) and low-interest student loans.
      2. Write an index card describing your decision on each topic.
    2. During Philosophical Chairs:
      1. Listen.
      2. Paraphrase.
      3. Share.
      4. Move.
    3. After Philosophical Chairs, write a 2 minute quick write: When was it the easiest to paraphrase others? Hardest? Who was the most persuasive? What did this person say or do that was persuasive?
  2. Round 3: Mini-Seminar Addressing Discrimination

  2. Before you read, share: What parts of your education will help you reach your college and career goals?
  3. While you read: Identify the student author's main claim and evidence.
  4. After you read:

    1. Discuss: How convincing was the letter to the president? How could the student make it more convincing?
    2. Note: If you could give President Elect Donald Trump advice, what would you tell him? Keep this constructive. Pretend this advice would actually get used!

2)  Lesson Plan: Reading and Critiquing Art (15 min)
We have been invited to an art gallery hosted by Mrs. Kitchens' Spanish 111 students. Students have recreated art from different cultures and time periods. 
  1. Connect it all: What do you look for when you read books for English? Choose music to listen to? How can we find these elements in works of art?
  2. Skim through art history here.
  3. Discuss: When you want to improve a project you are working on, what feedback is most helpful? How would you decide if a work of art is effective?
