1) Warm Up: The Whole Picture or Family and Education Graph Analysis (10 min)
  1. First Period:

    1. Take 5 minutes on your own and then 3 minutes with classmates to complete Representation 4 in your The Whole Picture Document. This is TOC #17. 
  3. Third and Fourth Period:
    1. Write your answers in your notebook under your warm up from yesterday.
    2. Refer to the bar graph to the right.
      1. Using graph features determine what this graph is showing.
      2. Reflect: Thinking about your own schooling and how involved your family is, does anything from this graph surprise you?
    3. Then, look at the pie chart below. 
      1. Identify what this graph is showing.
      2. Classify your parents into one of the categories. Why did you classify them in that group? What is important about that group?

2) Lesson Plan Part 2: MicroUN Resolution Research and Decision Making (25 min)
  1. Review your resolution.
    1. Sweatshop Resolution
    2. Israeli-Palestinian Health and Conflict Resolution
  2. Finish your research by filling in your document:

    What will you resolve?
    1. Find two articles from news sources based in your country that relate to your topic. If you need to, you may try news sources like NPR or BBC if you cannot find enough from a news source from your country. *Remember, you are representing your country as if you were from there! Using your country's media will help you do that!*
    2. Suggested search terms:
      1. Sweatshop: Country name: Worker rights; sweatshop; working conditions; child labor laws; health of sweatshop workers
      2. Israeli-Palestinian Health and Conflict Resolution: Country name: Israel-Palestine conflict; assistance for refugees; refugee crisis; refugee status; immigration; Hamas; crimes against humanity; international aid
    3. Fill in your research guide.
    4. Add "MicroUN Resolution Research Guide" to your TOC as #25.
    5. Research Guides must be completed before class on Thursday, 20 October.
  4. After you research:
    1. Complete the rest of the anticipation guide by discussing your findings with your group.
    2. Begin to discuss what changes to the resolutions you would call for and how you would vote.
    3. Complete your speech pre-writing.
    4. Final speeches are due on Monday, 24 October.
3) Lesson Plan: Family Fair Preparation (25 min)

  1. Check for activity notes here.
  2. Finish writing your plan
  3. Try your activity.
  4. Get a poster board or trifold poster board. On this board include the following information:
    1. The name of your station
    2. The goal of your station
    3. Any key vocab words defined (ex: potential energy, identity, etc.)
    4. Steps to follow
    5. Pictures and sketches
    6. 3-5 bullet points that show how this activity relates to what we do at LEC
  5. Where we are headed: You will have time to continue preparing on Thursday. Be ready to share your activity with classmates on Friday for feedback. You will have time to revise and finalize your plans next Tuesday and Thursday.
4) Success Workshop and Closure: Self-Binder and Note Check (10 min)
  1. Read through the form below. DO NOT fill it in!
  2. Use the form to improve your notes and to reorganize your binders.
