Essential Question: What Career Cluster fits best with who I am? How can knowing my Career Cluster help me choose the best college for me?
Objectives: I can...
...design my future dorm considering my career and college interests.
...match student activities and campus events to NCSU's mission statement.
...list what I need to look for in a college.

1) Warm Up: Design your Future Dorm (15 min)
  1. Use the template to create your own dorm design.
  2. Add at least three snacks in your fridge, three major or career specific books to your shelf, three things to the box under your bed, and three things in the closet.
  3. Your bulletin board, clock, window, and college pennant need at least one thing.
  4. Use color!
2) Literacy Block (25 min): The NCSU Mission Statement in Action

  1. Before you read your focus article:
    1. Read the NCSU mission statement (to the right). (2 min)
    2. Class mind dump and notes: If we saw the mission statement in action, what would we see?
    3. Choose a focus article from the list below.

        1. The Internet of Energy (Read all about innovation in smart grid, sustainable energy)
        2. What Science Looks Like at NCSU (Think you can't mix time for art with time for science research? Think again!)
        3. The linguists are coming! The linguists are coming! (Why do people in NC talk they way they do? Why do we care?)
        4. Trick or Treat or Barf (Can social media be used to raise public health awareness?)
        5. Art for Academics Sake (Can art make you smart?)
        6. Shelton Promotes Values-Based Leaders (What makes a great leader?)
        7. CSI: NC State (How can skulls, soil, and more help solve crimes?)
    4. While you read your focus article, note ways that your article shows the mission statement of NCSU in action. (7 min)
    5. After you read: (5 min)
      1. Write on two sticky notes showing two ways that your article relates to the NCSU mission statement.
      2. Post your sticky notes on the related part of the NCSU mission statement.
      3. Share out!
      3) Lesson Plan (30 min): My Career Cluster
      1. Open the assignment document.
      2. Read your task for today and make sure your notes are set up.
      3. Create a list of what you need to consider when you choose a college based on your Career Cluster. Resources to use:
        1. College Week Live Tips here
        2. College pamphlets in the black basket or in the yellow bag
      4) Success Workshop: Time to Revise and Organize (for note revisions, start with AVID)
      1. Add HOT questions to your notes. 
      2. Write summaries.
      3. Highlight key terms.
      4. Make sure your binder is organized.
      5. Do you need new TOCs? Get them!
      5) Exit Ticket: Set a SMART goal for the week!
