Big Idea: Relationships
Essential Question: How can knowing where we are from help us determine where we will go?

...revise a paragraph using grammar rules.

1) Warm Up: Creative Writing (5 min + 3 min to share)
  1. Respond to the prompt below by drawing your head and then showing what takes up time and space in your head. These could be hobbies, values, friends, song lyrics, etc!
  2. Share your image with a friend.
2) Literacy Block: Grammar Excitement Week 1 (25 min)

  1. Read the paragraph you are given to your partner.
  2. Identify what is missing.
  3. Review the related grammar rules and highlight key points.
  4. Correct the original paragraph. 
  5. Check your results.
3) Lesson Plan: Identity Trees (35 min)
  1. Create an Identity Tree:
    1. The roots show your values and skills. (examples: kindness, comfort, success, education, listening, fixing things)
    2. The trunk is your name. 
    3. The branches are details from your life, including: events, memories, favorite things, beliefs, important people, heritage. (examples: baptism, pizza, best friend, Irish)
    4. The leaves are your hopes, dreams, and goals. (examples: go to college, have a business, have a family, travel, see a world with more equality)
  2. Add color and symbols to your tree. (examples: cross, shamrock, basketball team logos)
  3. Choose one thing from each category to share with the class.
4) Success Workshop: Summarize and Organize Competition (15 min)
  1. Add Level 2 and Level 3 questions to your notes and assignments. Use sticky notes as needed.
  2. Write summaries for as many pages as possible. These should answer the EQ and questions in the margin.
  3. Swap with a partner. 
  4. Count summaries and questions added. 
  5. Use partner's work to add one more summary or question to your own.
