1) Warm Up: Career Profile Additions (10 min)
- Find your career profile sheet from two weeks ago.
- Go to CFNC.org > "Plan" > "For a Career" > "Explore Careers".
- Add on the following things to your profile:
- Name the projected increase in your career and if it is faster or slower than the national average (between 8-14%) (Use the Money and Outlook side tab.)
- List three classes you should take at LEC/CCCC to prepare for this career using the "What to Learn" side bar.
- Give an example of a problem someone in your career would solve. Use the "Real Life Activities" bar or do a quick Google search for the answer.
2) Literacy Block: Academic Vocabulary Self Assessment and 3-2-1 (15 min)
- Set up notes for today.
- Go to the quizlet here.
- Look at the side bar on the right hand column. Find "Start With" and choose "Definition".
- Quiz yourself once with the terms first. Refer to the Process Skills poster if you need help.
- Find "Start With" and choose "Definition". Under that, choose "Shuffle".
- Quiz yourself a second time and complete a 3-2-1:
- List three words you took more time on and their definitions.
- Illustrate and label two words.
- Finally, write one Vocabulary Beast sentence using as many words as you can in a logical sentence that IS NOT "The words we reviewed today were...".
- Draw a beast around your sentence and share it with the class.
3) Lesson Plan: Where I'm From by George Ella Lyons
- Read the grading checklist here!
- Write your sticky note with the two most important things you need to do to get the grade you want.
- On your sheet, write a Diagnostic Writing Concern. What is one question or section of your poem you want someone to look at? Why?
- Get with a partner, read your poem to your partner.
- As you read, your partner should sketch what he or she visualizes as you read. This will tell you if your poem paints an image of where you are from OR if you need to be more specific.
- Let your partner read your poem and write a "Wow" and "Wonder" on your grading sheet.
- Discuss your Diagnostic Writing Concern and make revisions.
- Swap roles.
- Your timeline:
- Write your own "Where I'm From" poem by Friday.
Monday: Prewrite and DraftToday: Finish Draft- Thursday: Peer Evaluate
- Tuesday: Publish and Illustrate, Self-Identity Reading
- Wednesday: Seminar Prep and Tutorial
- Thursday: Identity Seminar
- Friday: Family Day Poetry Readings (small group)
- Monday: Identity Trees

4) Success Workshop: Summarize and Organize Competition (15 min)
- Add Level 2 and Level 3 questions to your notes and assignments. Use sticky notes as needed.
- Write summaries for as many pages as possible. These should answer the EQ and questions in the margin.
- Swap with a partner.
- Count summaries and questions added.
- Use partner's work to add one more summary or question to your own.
5) Exit Ticket: Write your favorite line from your poem and any questions you have on a sticky note. Give this to me!
