1) Warm Up: Costa's Levels of Questions Verb Sort (7 min)
  1. Take out Costa's House (TOC #10) and Costa's Questions Resources (TOC #11).
  2. Sort the verbs on your sheet into the correct columns.
2) Before the Tutorial: Prepare!
  1. Quiz the Tutor and Teacher
    1. Use the resource here.
    2. Come up with ONE scenario where a student may struggle. Write this on one index card.
    3. On two other index cards, write as many good and bad questions as you can. Cut these into strips.
      1. Scenario: A student is stuck on a graphing problem.
      2. Bad Question: Here's my graph. Does yours look like mine?
      3. Good Question: Can you identify the slope and y-intercept?
    4. Some questions should be "good" for tutorials and some should be "bad".
    5. See if you can stump the teacher or tutor!
  2. Get your resources out!
    1. Notes
    2. Textbooks
    3. Blog/website posts
    4. Assignments
  3. Break into groups.
    1. Ms. Nickel: Science/AVID/English/History
    2. Mrs. Testa: Math 2
    3. Mrs. Cunkelman: Math 1
3) During the Tutorial: Inquire
  1. Tutors moderate!
  2. One presenter will give a 30 second speech.
  3. Then, group members will write a question to ask presenter.
  4. Tutorial starts. Make sure to take three column notes.
  5. Switch to the next presenter.
  6. Repeat.
  7. Finished? Work on homework. Stuck? Ask questions!
4) After the Tutorial: Tutors and Students: Complete the reflection.
