How can structures at LEC help me succeed? (Day 5) Daily Plans: Monday, 10 August

Happy Monday Day AVID Team!
***********************************
Homework: Revise your notes!
***********************************
Big Idea: Structure
Essential Question: How can structures at LEC help me succeed?
Objectives: I can...
...retell part of what I read in DEAR in a new way.
...organize my online tools.
...describe the Cornell note process.
***********************************
1) Warm Up:
  1. 1st Block: Post DEAR Task (5 min): Choose ONE to respond to - you have 5 minutes to write!
    1. Retell a scene from a novel you read today from the point-of-view of a snail. If you read nonfiction, write what a snail would think about the article you read.
    2. OR Tell what a character or person featured in a novel or article you read would think if he or she got sent to LEC for a day. Consider doing this as a journal or texts he/she would send to a friend.
  2. 4th Block: Finish your AVID person. Post it in the classroom OR give it to me.
    1. Done? Respond to the journal prompt below:
2) Cornell Notes on Cornell Notes
  1. Watch the video below create a checklist on how to make Cornell notes.
  2. Discuss: How many times have we revisited this article? What else could we do to revisit this information.
  3. After the video:
    1. Choose one set of Cornell notes to revise.
    2. Stand Up-Hand Up-Pair Up:
      1. Swap Cornell notes. Give each other a plus and delta for the Cornell notes. Here's what to look for:
        1. Is the format of your notes correct?
        2. Did you add a topic/objectives?
        3. Are your notes revised to add in missing info?
        4. Are their brackets to show where there are different topics?
        5. Did you write questions for each section?
        6. Is there a summary?
      2. Play Skeptic/Lobbyist. Lobbyists! Convince your skeptic that the Cornell process is important!
