How can structures at LEC help me succeed? (Day 4) Daily Plans: Friday, 7 August

Happy Friday Family Day AVID Team!
***********************************
Homework: Give your Trust Levels slip to your parents/guardians!
***********************************
Big Idea: Structure
Essential Question: How can structures at LEC help me succeed?
Objectives: I can...
...retell part of what I read in DEAR in a new way.
...list common traits you can ask about for any book.
...evaluate my areas of expertise.
...build community.
***********************************
1) Warm Up: Post DEAR Task (5 min)
  1. Choose ONE to respond to - you have 5 minutes to write!
    1. Retell a scene from a novel you read today from the point-of-view of a snail. If you read nonfiction, write what a snail would think about the article you read.
    2. OR Tell what a character or person featured in a novel or article you read would think if he or she got sent to LEC for a day. Consider doing this as a journal or texts he/she would send to a friend.
2) Book Club! (15 min)
  1. Break into groups.
  2. In your groups, tell what you are currently reading.
  3. Brainstorm questions you could ask about any book or article.
    1. Example: Where does the book/article take place?
    2. Non-Example: Where does Harry kiss Cho Chang?
  4. Then, on one side of your bookmark, write at least 5 questions.
  5. Next week you'll decorate!
3) Expert Grid (10 min)
  1. Make up levels of expertise.
  2. Add your name to each category!
4) Family Day!
  1. Play "I'm an LEC student and you're an LEC student too if..."
  2. Then...
    1. Free time for sports outside
    2. Coloring pages, board games, and such in Ms. Cunkelman's room.
