How can asking questions clarify confusions? Daily Plans: Wednesday, 16 March

Happy Wednesday AVID Team!
*************************
Homework: ACA Task due Friday!
*************************
Big Idea: Powerful choices require knowledge
Essential Question: How can asking questions clarify confusions?
Objectives: I can...
...ask questions to clarify confusions.
...determine course equivalencies.
*************************
1) Warm Up: TRF Note Revision (10 min)
  1. Go to the correct room.

    1. Ms. Nickel: Science
    2. Mrs. Testa: Mandatory Math 3 Accuplacer Prep
    3. Ms. Cunkelman: Math 2
    4. Mr. Stern: Spanish, Statistics, Humanities
  2. Take out notes related to your TRF.
  3. Highlight key terms and see if your definitions are thorough.
  4. Open the document here.
  5. On the back of your TRF list 3 questions you can ask during the Tutorial.
2) ACA Work Time (Until 1:50)
  1. Open your "ACA Wk 5: College Course Equivalencies" document.
  2. Log in to ACA and go to "Lessons and Assignments" > "Week 5: College Course Equivalencies".
  3. Find the college course equivalency database for two schools.
    1. Try the resource here.
    2. Alternatively, Google "Community College Course Equivalencies at ____ (name of school)".
  4. Then, find a science class and elective that transfer to your school of choice and what they transfer as. List these as shown in your ACA task. Here's an example:
    1. CCCC: ELEC###  East Carolina University equivalency: ELEC###
    2. CCCC: SCI###   Campbell Univeristy equivalency: SCi###
  5. Finally, complete the reflection.
    1. Provide a reflection after listing the courses you found.  This will be typed under the courses in the same submission text box. This reflection should be 3-4 sentences long and should focus on your thoughts on this process.  Why do you think it is important?  How do you see this process helping you as you choose your college courses in your junior/senior years?
3) Tutorial Time (1:50, Reflection at 2:33)
  1. Before we begin:
    1. Gather your notes that relate to your POC.
    2. Break into groups of 4-5.
    3. Share your initial question and concept rating.
    4. Choose your first presenter (someone with a rating of 1-2).
    5. The presenter will give a 30 second speech ending with the POC.
  2. During Tutorials:
    1. While the presenter presents...
      1. Note questions asked and work done to resolve the POC.
      2. Take notes for the presenter.
    2. After the presenter understands the material, the presenter will summarize his/her understanding and record it in the summary column. If the group members agree that the summary is accurate, move on. (Don't agree? Ask more clarifying/inquiring questions until the presenter gets it!)
    3. Repeat as time permits until 2:33.
  3. After Tutorials:
    1. Answer the top two questions.
    2. Highlight three questions you will answer.
    3. Write your response in 5 complete sentences NOT starting with yes/no.
    4. Return your completed TRF, 3 column notes, and reflection to YOUR AVID teacher at 2:43.
