1) Warm Up: Creative Writing, Poetry Month Edition (15 min)
- Option 1: Random Answer Generator
- With a partner whose paper you cannot see, choose a question writer and an answer writer.
- The question writer writes 20 questions all starting with "Why...?"
- The answer writer writes 20 answers all starting with "Because..."
- Move next to each other and read your poem call-and-response style.
- Option 2: Suspended
- Write a poem about something "suspended" - a leaf floating to the ground, a student from school, a musical note that keeps going, etc.
- Use as many different verbs and adjectives as possible.
- Bonus points (in pride and glory) for writing this poem in the shape of the subject of the poem.
- Option 3: Dear Poet
- Watch a video of a poet reading their poem here.
- Then, follow the directions by "Students-" to write a letter to that poet about their work.
- Love writing poetry?
- Consider sharing what you write at Karma Coffee's open mic night this Thursday!
- Check out other National Poetry Month ideas here.
- Sign up for Poem-A-Day to get a poem in your email daily.
- Let me know if you want me to print you a poem for Poem in your Pocket Day.
