1) Warm Up: Public Speaking Warm Up (15 min)
  1. Draw a card.
  2. Take 2 minutes to plan a 30 second speech selling whatever is on your card. You can decide to be a GREAT public speaker OR to act like the worst public speaker ever. You must talk for 30 seconds regardless :).
  3. Share your speech.
  4. Note effective and ineffective strategies for public speaking.
2) Upcoming Events Brainstorming and Feedback
  1. Book Clubs:

    1. What are book club categories we should have? ie, How do you want to choose book club groups? By genre? Length? Who you want to read with? Topic?
    2. What activities do you want to include? Exclude?
    3. Check the options here and make new requests!
  3. Long Term Project:
    1. MicroUN Conference next week!
    2. Then, you choose a topic you care about and create a game to teach your classmates about the complexity of the issue. You may recruit other people to work with you. What topics are interesting as of now?
  4. Family Fair:
    1. Check your topics here.
    2. Next week we will jump into planning for our Family Fair. You will start by proposing and planning your table top activity and then you will practice it. Meet with your group and decide what people need to bring in on Monday. (This can be ideas, art supplies, etc.)
3) MicroUN Resolution Research and Decision Making
  1. Review your resolution.

    What will you resolve?
    1. Find two articles from news sources based in your country that relate to your topic. If you need to, you may try news sources like NPR or BBC if you cannot find enough from a news source from your country. *Remember, you are representing your country as if you were from there! Using your country's media will help you do that!*
    2. Suggested search terms:
      1. Sweatshop: Country name: Worker rights; sweatshop; working conditions; child labor laws; health of sweatshop workers
      2. Israeli-Palestinian Health and Conflict Resolution: Country name: Israel-Palestine conflict; assistance for refugees; refugee crisis; refugee status; immigration; Hamas; crimes against humanity; international aid
    3. Fill in your research guide.
  4. After you research:
    1. Complete the rest of the anticipation guide by discussing your findings with your group.
    2. Begin to discuss what changes to the resolutions you would call for and how you would vote.
    3. Complete your speech pre-writing.
    4. Final speeches are due on Friday, 21 October.
