Big Idea: Structures for student support, Cultivating relationships
Essential Question: How can teaching my parents about the structures used at LEC help me be successful?
Objectives: I can…
...revise my AVID notes.
...choose a role for planning AVID Parent Night.
...demonstrate mastery of strategies for success that I’ve learned at LEC so far.
...set and meet goals.

1) Warm Up: (10 minutes)
  1. Add HOT questions and summaries to two pages of your notes from AVID.
  2. If you finish early, respond to the prompt: What would you do if the zombie apocalypse really was happening and it started while you were at LEC?
  1. Before you read: What do your parents think school is like for you? List at least five misconceptions they might have about your education.
  2. While you read: Partner read and annotate using diigo.
    1. Define methodology, pedagogy, and philosophy in a sticky note.
    2. Highlight claims in blue.
    3. Highlight changes in education in green.
    4. Highlight interesting facts in yellow.
    5. Summarize what schools should be doing to educate parents in a sticky note. 
    6. Highlight strategies LEC is already using in pink.
  3. After you read: If you were going to teach your parents about LEC, what would you want them to know?

4) SMART Success Workshop
  1. Create a list of SMART goals (make sure to give each a time limit) for the rest of the period. What will you accomplish?
  2. You must meet with me to show me your ORGANIZED binder! Let me know when you are ready to have me check it!
  3. Options for SMART goals:
    1. Organize your binder by putting everything in rings in the right section and adding on to your TOCs.
    2. Revise and reflect on Cornell notes by adding HOT questions and summaries.
    3. Complete missing work or revisions for any class.
    4. Work on homework.
