1) Warm Up: Creative Writing (10 min)

1. Set up a note sheet. EQ: How can I succeed in school this semester? Topics: ACA 111, Time Management
2. Respond to one of the prompts (read the captions under the quotes) by writing silently for 5 minutes.
3. Highlight or *star* your two most important points or interesting lines.
4. Share your response at your table.

Prompt: Give an example of a time when
you have seen hate as a heavy burden to bear.
Is hate ever worth it? Why or why not?

2) Lesson Plan Part 1: What is ACA 111? As told by students who took it (30 min)

1. Before our guest speakers join us...
1. Review the purpose of ACA 111 and how it is different than AVID.
2. List questions you hope the guest speakers answer.
3. Characterize what the class will look like and be doing if we effectively listen to our guest speakers and fail to listen.
2. As our guest speakers talk, take notes and demonstrate TSLANT.
3. After our guest speakers share, ask any remaining questions you have. Thank our speakers!

3) Lesson Plan Part 2: The Elusive Skill - Time Management (30 min)

1. Part 1: How do you choose what to do first? (and other fun time management decisions)
1. Cut out the cards and put them in order four different times based on the questions below:

1. What order would you do the items in if your first priority was helping your friends?
2. What order would you do the items in if your first priority was making an A in each class?
3. What order would you do the items in if your first priority was helping your family?
4. What order would you do the items in if your first priority was your version of success?
2. Note: Which order was most similar to the order you do things in now?
3. Discuss: What makes it easier and harder to choose when to do what?
2. Part 2: Time Management Workshop Time (Choose One)
1. Decorate your planner or a calendar print out using the materials on the back table.
