1) Warm Up: My Common Application Essay (10 min)
The Common Application enables you to write one application and share it with many schools that
are accepting this application. This makes the process of applying to college more affordable and more consolidated. Many UNC System schools are using the Common App, yet some require some supplemental materials.

  1. Read the Common Application Essay prompts below.
  2. Then, choose one of the following tasks to complete:
    1. Respond to one of the prompts in complete sentences by writing for 10 minutes.
    2. Identify which one you would choose to respond to and justify your choice using lists for 10 minutes.
    3. Choose 2-3 of the topics and list ideas you have about how you could respond to them. Then, star the one that is your favorite. 
2) Literacy Block: Writing a Business Plan (30 min)
  1. Before you begin writing:
    1. Look at the business plan examples here and here.
    2. List 3 things that are important in the FORMAT of the business plan.
    3. List 2 things that are important in the CONTENT of the business plan.
  2. Move so you are sitting with your group for the Sanford Redesign Project.
  3. Review the business you are supposed to create a plan for.
  4. Use the form below to submit your business plan proposal to the Business and Finance committee.


3) Lesson Plan: College Pennant (35 min)
  1. Keep working on your college pennant.
  2. Check off your work as you go.
4) Success Workshop: Revise and Organize (10 min)
  1. In your notes and on assignments:
    1. Highlight key terms.
    2. Write HOT questions in the margins or on sticky notes.
    3. Answer the HOT questions and/or EQ in a summary.
  2. In your binders: 
    1. Make sure your TOC is accurate.
    2. Put all papers in order in the rings.
    3. Write your name on the cover of each binder.
5) Exit Ticket: SMART Goal of the Week 
  1. Write your SMART goal for this week on your sticky note.
  2. Post this on your TOC.
