  2. LATE WORK: Career Problems Paper, Common App document, Pennant, etc

**************************
Big Idea: Relationships
Essential Question: How can poems and images convey ideas?
Objectives: I can...
...celebrate National Poetry Month by writing poems.
...write from different perspectives.
...relate pictures of NCSU to the mission statement.
**************************
1) Warm Up: Exquisite Corpse Poems (10 min)

  1. Write a line of poetry that uses the word above the line.
  2. Fold the paper over so your line can't be seen.
  3. Keep passing and repeating until time is called.
  4. Read your poems at your tables.
  5. Decide on one poem to read to the class.

2) Literacy Block: Poema en Dos Voces (30 minutes)
  1. Before you Read: Make a claim. Is being bilingual helpful or not? Why?
  2. Each partner reads the poem on your sheet out loud. In the margins note the father’s opinion about language and the author’s opinion.
  3. After you read:
    1. Skim the poem here.
    2. Choose an important idea (home, power, friendship, success) with your partner.
    3. Write a poem alternating lines.
    4. Highlight your two favorite pairs of lines. Share one with the class.
3) Lesson Plan: Mission Statement Photo Presentation (40 min)

  1. Get in your groups from Friday.
  2. Make a copy of the presentation above. Rename it "Name, Name,... - Photo Pres".
  3. Read the LEC mission statement at the bottom of the page here.
  4. Create your presentation.
  5. Delete ALL of what I typed in the template to make this your own!
  6. Make sure EVERY photo has a caption! Use text boxes as needed.

4) Success Workshop: Time for You (20 min)

  1. Finish your paper and works cited (points off for lateness).
  2. Organize your binder.
  3. Revise your notes by adding HOT questions, highlighting key terms, and writing summaries.

5) Exit Ticket: Start SMART

  1. Write a SMART goal for the week on your sticky note.
  2. Post it!
